The game crossover can be very important for fighting games. With more platforms, you have a better chance of finding opponents. And if you can find opponents quickly and without much hassle, then you keep players coming back, which creates a much more active online community.
For months, gamers campaigned for cross-play Guilty Gear Strive between PlayStation consoles and PC, but developer Arc System Works was never able to promise anything. Sadly, it still is, but a recent interview has rekindled people’s hopes.
At the very least, it seems Arc System Works is still taking crossplay seriously. Speaking to Comunidad Arc System Works, the studio confirms that it is “going through the verification processes” for cross-play support. “But there are still many practical issues, such as the schedules and operating costs of the corresponding servers. It will take a little longer before we can make a concrete announcement, ”concludes the developer.
We are not sure what these “verification processes” are. Arc System Works may have to negotiate with platform owners like Sony , or maybe it’s busy working on the technical side of things with server vendors – or both. Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens. Hopefully, the developer has some good news to share in the not too distant future.
