The Weeknd (31) has pulled out his wallet to help the people of Ethiopia. In the Tigray region, a conflict has been going on for some time in which militias are turning against the central government.
“My heart breaks for my people in Ethiopia where innocent residents, from small children to the elderly, are being murdered without feeling and entire villages are displaced for fear of destruction,” The Weeknd writes on his Instagram. The singer’s parents moved to Canada from Ethiopia years ago. The conflicts have led to many rapes and looting, with the result that hundreds of thousands of people have already been displaced.
The ‘Blinding Lights’ singer says he will donate 850,000 euros so that the United Nations’ World Food Program can provide two million meals for the people of the region. He also calls on his followers to donate.
