You can’t easily buy a PlayStation 5 here in the UK, but it’s the best-selling console in the country two months in a row now. As reported earlier in the week, the system has now surpassed total lifetime sales of the Nintendo Wii U, PS Vita, and SEGA Dreamcast – a feat not entirely extraordinary considering these consoles have failed, but it was successful in about five months with extremely tight stock.
In fact, March 2021 was the second best month for PS5 sales in the UK, second only to its launch in November. All this according to data from GfK Entertainment, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. Due to strong sales, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales continues to perform well – although it is also available on the more readily available and established PS4. It seems that many are waiting for Sony’s next-gen console before they embark on the superhero spin-off.
Overall, the PS5 pretty much dominates the hardware space: Accessories like the DualSense controller, Pulse 3D headset, and DualSense charging station mean Sony is winning the battle for top-selling accessories as well. However, Nintendo’s evergreen software arsenal is serving the Switch well – despite the hybrid falling to third in console sales for the first time in years.
