Roger Federer’s name (ATP 7) is not on the entry list for the ATP Masters 1,000 tournament in Rome (May 9-16). The tournament in the Italian capital starts immediately after the tournament in Madrid (May 2-9), where Federer will make his return to clay after almost two years of absence.

The 39-year-old Swiss returned to competition at the ATP tournament in Doha at the beginning of March. He lost his second game against Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili. He stopped playing afterwards.

His last clay court duel was the lost semi-final at Roland Garros on June 7, 2019 against Rafael Nadal.

Federer is the only player from the top 45 of the ATP ranking who did not register for the tournament in Rome. David Goffin will also participate.
