80-year-old Nona Gaprindashvili, the first woman in the world to win the title of International Grandmaster, is suing Netflix over the Queen’s Move series.
The athlete demands an impressive amount of five million dollars. This money should serve as compensation for the moral damage that the series inflicted on her.
The fact is that in one of the episodes of the project, the character of Nona appeared. The authors of the show stated that she never played parts with men, unlike the main character played by Ani Taylor-Joy.
However, in reality this is not the case. Back in 1968, Gaprindashvili played over 50 games against men. She won most of them. Her claim was filed in an American court.
“Gaprindashvili is a pioneer of women’s chess and a legend in his home country. Throughout her extraordinary career, she has won many championships, defeated some of the best male chess players in the world and became the first woman in history to become an international chess grandmaster, ”the New York Times quoted the lawsuit as saying .
