Whoever won the first stage in the Tour of Turkey today would all end up in the shadow of Fabio Jakobsen’s big comeback. The Dutchman finished the stage without any problems – he finished 147th – and looked back afterwards as a happy man. “It felt so special to put on the Deceuninck-Quick.Step jersey again this morning, especially since I’ve had to see my teammates racing on television in recent months. I have few words for how happy I am. In the first part of the stage a lot of riders came to wish me luck and say they were happy to see me again. That was good.

Although Jakobsen must also admit that his return to the peloton was equally surprising in the beginning. “It took some getting used to the hustle and bustle. I have to admit that in the beginning, when the others maneuvered left and right and hit the brakes a few times, I was a little scared. But then everything went well and I even went to the front of the peloton, in the wheel of Iljo (Keisse, ed.). ”

Jakobsen is officially a cyclist again. What will the (near) future bring? “The goal today was to finish the stage, but I also tried to help the boys where I could. In the last ten kilometers I had to drop out a bit and could not support the team in the final. Too bad, but the fact that I was able to finish my first race after so many months makes me proud and gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the week. I’m going to enjoy every moment this week. ”
