Earl Simmons, better known by his stage name DMX, was taken to a hospital in White Plains, New York on Friday. The reason for his admission is an overdose of drugs. As a result of his overdose, the American rapper subsequently suffered a heart attack. It is not yet known exactly how he is doing. Although, according to his doctors, it does not look good.

Not the first time

DMX has been struggling with drug addiction for years. In 2016 he was found unconscious in a parking lot in New York. At the time, agents successfully resuscitated him and he was also given an injection that reversed the effects of his overdose. A spokesman for the American rapper said at the time that it was an asthma attack, but they would have said that only to disguise his overdose story.

Two years later, in 2018, a drug test showed that DMX was still addicted. He had, however, voluntarily entered rehab after cocaine and marijuana were found in his blood. The second drug test, which was also positive, showed that he had taken painkillers and cocaine. In the same year he was eventually also sent to prison for tax fraud. The rapper was initially sentenced to four years and nine months, but was released after barely a year.

DMX enjoyed its greatest success between 1997 and 2006, when he had a record deal with the renowned Def Jam Recordings. The rapper was even seen as the successor to the iconic Tupac. In 2015 he filed for bankruptcy, although he had sold almost 30 million records.
